Frequently Asked Questions

FAQs for Mommas

  • Our postpartum coaching offers personalized support for your well-being throughout your motherhood journey. Your coach can work with you to:

    • Create a customized healing plan

    • Navigate physical recovery milestones

    • Develop sustainable self-care practices

    • Address sleep and energy management

    • Balance baby care with personal needs

    • Return to movement safely

    • Navigate relationship changes

    • Build confidence in your new role

  • While the initial 40 days are considered the immediate postpartum period, the full postpartum journey extends much further. Medically, postpartum is often defined as the first 12 months after birth. However, we recognize that every mother's journey is unique, and the transition into motherhood is a continuous process. Physical healing typically takes 6-12 months, while emotional and identity adjustments may continue far longer than this period. Our postpartum support programs recognize this extended transition and offer care to mothers and birthing parents with children of all ages. See Coaching for specific program recommendations.

  • Both are valuable forms of support, but they serve different purposes during your postpartum journey:

    Postpartum Doula

Focus: Immediate practical support and newborn care Timeline: Typically first few weeks to 3-4 months postpartum Services: Hands-on help with feeding, sleep routines, light household tasks, newborn care education, and emotional support during the immediate transition

Best for: Getting through the initial transition phase and learning practical newborn care skills

    Postpartum Coach

Focus: Your long-term health, identity transformation, and sustainable wellness Timeline: Can begin anytime from postpartum onward, often most valuable 4-6 months postpartum Services: Comprehensive health assessment, personalized wellness protocols, sustainable habit formation, rebuilding physical energy and confidence, navigating identity shifts, and creating lasting health foundations

Best for: Mothers who've moved past immediate survival but are experiencing persistent physical symptoms, energy depletion, loss of identity, or feeling stuck in their health and wellness

    Can I work with both?

Absolutely! Many mothers benefit from doula support early on and coaching support as they transition into longer-term motherhood. They complement each other beautifully.

When do I need a coach instead of a doula?

The key difference: A doula helps you survive the immediate postpartum period. A coach helps you create sustainable wellness that supports who you're becoming as a mother.

  • We create a safe space for all birthing bodies and welcome mommas of every background into our community. At the same time, we are intentional and unwavering in our commitment to honoring Black mommas, who have historically been underserved and under-supported in their maternal journeys.

  • As a health and wellness coach, I do not diagnose or treat any medical conditions - that's outside my scope of practice and requires licensed mental health professionals.

    What I do instead:

Recognize & Refer: I'm trained to identify signs that suggest you need additional support and connect you with qualified therapists, psychiatrists, or perinatal mental health specialists who can properly diagnose and treat these conditions.

Provide Complementary Support: Once you're working with the right professionals, I can support your overall wellness foundation through:

    • Sleep optimization strategies that work with your treatment plan

    • Nervous system regulation techniques

    • Movement and nutrition support that complements your mental health care

    • Building sustainable routines that support your recovery

Coordinate Care: I work alongside your mental health providers, not instead of them, ensuring all aspects of your well-being are supported.

  • We are committed to decolonizing motherhood by honoring and reclaiming the ancestral wisdom that has supported new mommas for generations. Our approach recognizes that maternal care is deeply cultural and that many traditional postpartum practices have been systematically dismissed by Western medicine. We work with our mommas to integrate traditions and postpartum rituals from their cultures—with evidence-based modern care.

We believe in cultural humility and work to create spaces where every momma’s cultural heritage is celebrated, not merely accommodated. We believe in restoring the village model of care, which has sustained communities for millennia, transforming the journey from a potentially isolating experience into a sacred, collective experience. This means moving beyond the individualistic approach common in Western societies to adopt a community-centered approach that recognizes the interconnected nature of maternal wellness.
